When you need trees more than people

Juno Beach is easy to reduce to the ocean.

That would be a mistake.

Juno Dunes Natural Area covers 569 acres and reaches from the Atlantic side toward the Intracoastal Waterway. Depending on where you enter there are paved paths, sandy hiking trails, wetlands, a boardwalk, observation areas and stretches where South Florida suddenly looks a lot less developed.

The oceanfront tract includes an ancient sand dune holding the highest natural point in Palm Beach County.

We should manage expectations. This is still Florida. No oxygen tank will be required.

But the point is not the altitude. The point is how quickly the landscape changes.

Because sometimes the best local places are not the ones with a reservation list.

Juno Dunes works when you need an hour outside, when you want a walk that feels like an actual walk, or when the beach is not quite the mood.

The west tract has longer sandy trails running toward the Intracoastal. The oceanfront side is easier to combine with a morning around Loggerhead Park and the beach.
