Most salon color announces itself before you sit down — the smell, the sting, the eyes watering under the foils. Ours does not.
We color with a professional oil-based system formulated with up to 99% organic and natural ingredients, certified by ECOCERT and COSMOS Organic. It is ammonia-free, with no PPD or resorcinol added to the formula, and it has been dermatologically tested for high skin tolerance by the Department of Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Perugia.

Who chooses it
Sensitive scalps. If color has stung, itched or flaked before, an ammonia-free oil delivery system is a different experience entirely.
Anyone who cannot stand the smell. Some people just cannot. That is reason enough.
During pregnancy. Pregnancy can make ordinary smells overwhelming, and the low odor is why many clients switch. Check with your doctor or midwife first — we are glad to work alongside whatever they advise.
Fine or fragile hair. The formula is built to protect the hair as it colors.
Anyone who reads labels. No PPD. No resorcinol. No ammonia.
Every new color client is skin tested
Forty-eight hours before your first color appointment, we do a skin test. It takes five minutes and it is not optional.
Even with a gentler formula, sensitivities can develop at any time — including in people who have colored for years without a problem. The test is how we find out safely rather than in the chair.

What it can and cannot do
It can deliver permanent color with up to 100% gray coverage, including resistant gray. It can go several shades lighter or darker than your natural. It can hold tone, and it can do all of that with lower odor and less scalp irritation than a conventional ammonia system.
It cannot lift dark hair to a bright blonde on its own. That is lightening, and lightener is a different product from color — see blonding. It also cannot undo what is already on the hair; that is correction.
And it is not a health claim. Ammonia-free and organic do not mean chemical-free, non-toxic or damage-free, and we will not tell you they do. It is evidence of how we work, not a promise about your body.
Where the certifications sit
This is worth being precise about, because plenty of salons are not.
The certifications belong to the color, not to the salon. ECOCERT and COSMOS Organic audited the formulation of the product we use. Touchée is not itself a certified organic business, and we do not display their marks, because those marks are licensed to the manufacturer. What we can tell you is exactly what was verified, by whom, and about what.
That is why the wording on this site is careful. “Formulated with up to 99% organic and natural ingredients,” not “99% organic.” “Certified by ECOCERT and COSMOS Organic,” not “certified organic salon.” “No PPD or resorcinol added to the formula,” not “chemical-free.” The difference between those pairs is the difference between a fact and a marketing line.

Questions
Is ammonia-free color as long-lasting?
Yes. The system we use includes a full permanent range with up to 100% gray coverage. The difference is in how the color is delivered into the hair, not in how long it stays there. Your formula is written down and carried forward, so the result repeats.
What does PPD-free actually mean?
PPD is a common ingredient in permanent hair color and one of the more frequent causes of reaction. Our color is made without it, and without resorcinol. That reduces risk. It does not eliminate it, which is why we still skin test every new color client.
Can I color my hair while pregnant?
There is no rule against it, and most guidance treats normal salon coloring as low risk. Many people prefer to wait until the second trimester. Ask your doctor or midwife first — and if the answer is yes, the low odor is why a lot of clients switch to this system during pregnancy. We are glad to work alongside whatever they advise.
What does the organic certification actually mean?
ECOCERT and COSMOS Organic are independent bodies that audit the formulation, and the skin tolerance testing was carried out by the Department of Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Perugia. None of it is a word the manufacturer gave itself. The certification belongs to the color we use, not to the salon.
Is everything in the salon organic?
No, and we will not tell you otherwise. The color is what carries the certifications. Styling and finishing products are chosen on merit, and some of them are conventional. Ammonia-free and organic do not mean chemical-free, non-toxic or damage-free.
Does ammonia-free color cover stubborn gray?
Yes, including resistant gray, up to 100% coverage. Resistant gray takes longer to process, which is why a gray coverage appointment is booked at an hour rather than forty minutes. See gray coverage.
Can you lighten hair without ammonia?
Color and lightener are two different products. Everything on this page describes the color we use. Lightening — the work behind highlights, balayage and blonding — is a separate product and a separate conversation. Ask at consultation and we will tell you exactly what is going on your hair.
